Description

Videoman
Real Name: Francis Byte
From: Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends
First Appearance: Videoman
Last Appearance: The Education Of A Superhero
Powers: Electric manipulation, Concussion beams, Intangibility
Story Then: Initially created by the villain Electro, to terrorize New York, Videoman was an electronic being that was defeated twice by Spider-Man, Iceman and Firestar.

Avid video gamer, Francis Byte gained the powers of Videoman after the the arcade game he was playing among others exploded. This was partially caused by the villain the Gamesman in an effort to hypnotize the citizens of New York.

He wants to help the three heroes stop the Gamesman but is initially reused due to his lack of experience. He does help defeat the Gamesman and rescues his girlfriend, Louise.

In the end, he enters Charles Xavier's School for the Gifted to control his new powers.

Story Now: Years later, Francis works at a public library for little pay. While he learned how to use his powers with the X-Men, he had a "falling out" and left the school. He also feels that his powers have become obsolete, but really him just comparing his look to the current video games.

Mason finds him and discusses the possibility of doing something more with his life. Francis agrees but feels he's "obsolete" and no good to anyone. Mason makes him a proposition, if Francis joins X-Works, he will "upgrade Videoman's power".

Francis agrees and weeks later, Mason uses S.H.E.I.L.D. digital holographic technology to make Videoman's look and attacks more ascetically pleasing.

Keeping his identity a secret to most of the public, Videoman is now the face of X-Works, whether the others like it or not.

Funny, I always thought an updated version of this guy would be called "Pixelman", because old and new videogames share one thing--both use pixels!
